Matcha and Bacterial Infection

By: James Whittle

Matcha green tea contains an abundance of a certain class of chemicals called polyphenols. Polyphenols have been studied for their anti-bacterial effects. So far research has shown that green tea can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella typhimurium, Salmonella enteritidis, Shigella flexneri, Shigella dysenteriae and Clostridium. Bacterial infections can be a serious or life threatening illness, matcha should be considered only as a complement in these severe cases.

Even though green tea can be anti-bacterial I am not suggesting you use matcha as a replacement for other treatments if you are infected. However, we have learned from experience in our clinic that drinking matcha can be very helpful for sinus infections and also for acne. I would recommend using matcha green tea for any type of infection as an additional and natural complement to other treatments.
